The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday sought reply from the secretary Cabinet Division, secretary Law, Justice and Human Rights and former chief justice (CJ) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudry in a plea challenging the grant of additional privileges to the former CJ.

A special bench comprising Justice Noorul Haq Qureshi and Justice Aamir Farooq heard the petition filed by Riaz Hanif Rahi Advocate seeking annulment of IHC’s order regarding provision of bullet-proof car to the former chief justice.

During the course of proceedings, Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Faisal Rafique apprised the bench that the government granted bullet-proof car to Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry on the directions of a single-judge bench of Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui.

He further maintained that the Law Ministry was providing fuel and maintenance allowance for the vehicle on the directions of IHC and not its own.

The DAG objected that IHC passed the order without hearing the Cabinet Division and the Ministry of Law, Justice and Human Rights and pleaded the case may be reviewed.

The court observed that without hearing the viewpoint of relevant authorities such order cannot be passed and issued notices to the litigants.

Subsequently, the bench adjourned the case till first week of June.
