Kalabagh dam remains a sore point in the interprovincial relations which keeps on often pinching the shoe. Recently the question raised in the Punjab Assembly about reinvigorating the project drew a challenge that someone ought to try to get a resolution from KP in favour of KBD. One often wonders if there is not a single sane person in KP who realises the benefits of the dam to irrigate 8 lac acres of virgin land in DIK which could usher an agricultural revolution in KP which can’t get its 14 per cent share as only a right bank gravity canal from KBD could supply KP its share of water agreed in the Water Accord of 1991.
Raising baseless fears of drowning Naushehra have been debunked by no other than Eng Shams-ul-Mulk, an enlightened leader of KP, but who would listen to the old man? Even kaptaan Imran Khan cannot muster enough courage to raise a clear and clarion voice for KBD which would give a double benefit to KP as also Mianwali District by massive investment in that area. History would record that the vibrant personality of captain was no match for the fulminations of ANP leaders based on their erstwhile foreign masters to torpedo KBD which is the ultimate guarantee for saving Pakistan from water and power crisis.
