18 cops punished over irregularities

18 cops were awarded various departmental punishments including dismissal from service by City Police Officer (CPO) Israr Ahmed Khan Abbasi on charges of misuse of power, dereliction from duty, poor investigation and corruption.

According to Rawalpindi police spokesman, the CPO took stern action against the cops during a meeting held here at Police Line No-1 which was chaired by him.

Those who were awarded punishment of dismissal from service included Sub-Inspector (SI) Farrukh Saghir, Head Constable Shahbaz Ahmed, Ladi Constable Mehwish Rashid, Lady Constable Sanum Saeed and Constable Nisar Sabir.

Inspector Nasir Jamal Shah was awarded punishment of forfeiture of two- year service and Inspector Safdar Hussain was punished with forfeiture of one year service.

One year service of Sub-Inspector Rafaqat Hussain was also forfeited. SI Mohsin Abbass was demoted and made ASI. Assistant Sub-Inspector Mohammad Asif was punished and made Head constable.

Similarly, SI Sadaqat Hussain given punishment of reduction in pay by three stages for showing negligence. SI Mohammad Muzaffar awarded punishment of reduction in pay by two stages. The punishment of reduction in pay by two stages was also for a traffic Warden namely Naeem Mahmood. Constable Yasir Khan faced reduction in pay by two stages.

Spokesman for the CPO said the police officials, who were punished, were found guilty of various charges including irresponsible attitude, negligence and absence from duty.
