KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain has claimed that Umair Siddiqui, an MQM worker who has reportedly confessed to the involvement of his party’s activists in the 2012 Baldia factory fire, was never arrested during Rangers’ raid at Nine-Zero on Wednesday.

“The truth is that Umair was arrested on February 15 and was subjected to inhumane torture. When lawyers tried to raise this matter, their appeals were not heeded,” said the MQM chief, while speaking to a television channel by phone from London on Saturday. “The Rangers are misleading people by saying that Umair was arrested from Nine-Zero on March 11,” he said.

Altaf said the MQM supported the targeted operation in Karachi against the Taliban and other militant outfits, sectarian groups, extortionists, target killers and street criminals but now the party was itself being targeted. “The MQM workers arrested during the raid are being presented as war criminals,” he claimed.

Meanwhile the MQM Rabita Committee reacted to a statement of Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, who on Saturday advised Altaf’s party not to use inappropriate language against the national security institutions.

In a statement issued late Saturday night, the Rabita Committee said leaders from the ruling PML-N have also been criticising the armed forces. Chauhdry Nisar and his party leaders have strongly crictised the armed forces. Why was Nisar silent when Defence Minister Khawaja Asif had used harsh words against the army in the National Assembly, it said.

“The MQM has also supported the army in the operation against the Taliban and militants, and have taken out rallies in its support,” the statement said.

  1. This stupid establishment is the cause of Bangladesh, Baloch rebellion, and Karachi massacre of 1992. THis stupid establishment would have lost half of Pakistan( Sindh and Balochistan) if they continue on with their stupid actions of aggression against other provinces. Pakistan is not only Punjub. Wake up Shahbaz and stop making deals with TTP only for sake of ur Punjub and think about Pakistan.

  2. No Sir, I tend to disagree totally with you. Bangladesh was result of Bhutto's Greed for Rule. He did not win elections and refused to accept Mujib ur Rehman as PM. He placed establishment + Military into difficult situation. As far as Karachi is concerned I have lived for 40 Years in Karachi and I know ins and outs of all problems. MQM has registered karkuns more than 1 Lakh who have to gather when called, I know thousands of them are further given freedom to harass, rob and collect bhatta from poor shopkeepers, businessmen and aaam awaaam. I have seen personally these things happening under the umbrella of units and sectors. But I only wish after grabbing support of about three four lakh workers Mr. Altaf would have become humanitarian. I met people whose families even today feel hurt for their lost ones. In 1971 it was war without media and evidential clarities. Today its a different ball game.

  3. MQM is a dhashat grad group which needs to be banned. enough of altaf. hand over the paper/files to UK and finish him off there. bangladesh was 1000 miles of hostile territory so different ball game. Karachi Inshallah is NOT going any where. Musharaf should not have given a life of MQM Alataf (2004) for his personal use.
