The Supreme Court (SC) has dismissed the petition filed against Dr Tahirul Qadri with regard to his political activities in the country and his alleged secret relations with former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) director general Lt Gen (r) Ziauddin.
Justice Asif Saeed Khosa took up petition filed by Shahid Orakzai for hearing in his chambers on Monday. The petitioner took the plea in his petition that Qadri was maintaining secret contacts with former ISI DG and had addressed press conference in Islamabad at his behest.
The question raised in the petition was if a foreigner can take part in politics in Pakistan under Article 17.
Orakzai had filed the petition in July, 2014 on the occasion when sit-ins of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) and Pakistan Tehreek-e- Insaf (PTI) were continuing. However, this petition was not fixed for hearing at that time.
Orakzai said he could not reach SC in time due to traffic congestion, therefore, petition was rejected. However, he would file appeal against rejection of his petition, he added.
