A candidate for Senate elections from Khyber Agency, Haji Momin, is convicted for having links with militants while an arrest warrant has also been issued against him, official said.

On the Anti Narcotic Force (ANF), a session judge in Peshawar issued arrest warrant against Momin for his alleged involvement in narcotics smuggling and sent to Political Agent Khyber Agency a week ago, an ANF official said. He was also convicted of having links with militants in 2009 and he had to pay fine while his house was also demolished as punishment.

When contacted Tariq Hayat, who was political agent of Khyber Agency in 2009, confirmed the allegation and told Online news agency that he was fined Rs 5,000,000 at that time for his links with militants.

A senior official in ANF said that a culprit along with huge narcotics was arrested a couple of days ago on Ring RoadPeshawar and it was the culprit who named Momin. So the session judge issued arrest warrant against him for investigation.

However, he said, “If investigation proves him clear then he would not be considered as convicted in this case.”

Nevertheless, Election Commission has accepted his nomination papers as the officials said that so far the commission has no evidence on hand against Momin. “The competing candidate or anyone else should come with proof, we would not have accepted his documents had we evidence in this connection,” an official in EC said on condition of anonymity.

The elections in FATA for Senate were postponed over the passage of a presidential ordinance.
