IHC issues notice to chief commissioner, Law Ministry and ECP secy, seeks reply in two weeks

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued a notice to the Chief Commissioner (CC) Islamabad, Ministry of Law and secretary Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on a petition filed by PTI on non-issuance of schedule for Local Bodies (LB) polls in Islamabad and sought reply from them within two weeks.

A single bench of IHC, comprising Justice Athar Minullah, took up for hearing a petition filed by PTI President Islamabad Amir Mughal on Thursday.

Farrukh Dall appeared on behalf of PTI and took the plea that the schedule for LB polls in Islamabad is not being announced and this way not only the fundamental rights of the citizens of Islamabad are being trampled but also Islamabad is being ignored.

He contended that not announcing the schedule for the LB polls in Islamabad is contrary to the law because the provincial governments of other provinces have sent letters to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) with reference to LB polls and the Supreme Court (SC) has sought schedule from federal government for holding LB polls in Punjab and Sindh.

He requested the court to order the ECP to issue the LB Polls schedule so that the LB polls could take place as soon as possible and the people of Islamabad could get their fundamental rights.

The court while issuing notices to Islamabad chief commissioner, secretary ministry of law and justice and secretary ECP has sought reply within two weeks from them besides adjourning the hearing of the case.
