As many as 25 people died in separate rain-related incidents across the country on Monday and the Pakistan Army has been alerted in the wake of likely flooding in Rawalpindi and Islamabad while the Metrological Department has forecasted a new round of rains from March 4 (Wednesday).
The federal capital’s administration fired up emergency sirens after the water level in Nullah Leh rose above 16 feet while the dug up roads of the federal capital have also become inundated.
People residing in the adjoining areas have been instructed to migrate to safe places. At least 89 millimetre (mm) rain has been recorded so far in Rawalpindi while 88mm in Islamabad.
The roof of the Parliament has also started dripping due to excessive rain.
RAIN RELATED DEATHS:
Heavy rains lashed out in various parts of the country, claiming lives of more than 25 people, including women and children, and injuring dozens others in separate incidents of house collapse, land sliding and road accidents.
Incessant rain and snowfall in mountainous areas of the country also adversely disrupted road and communication links.
As many as four people were killed and about 18 others injured when two-storey building of a marriage hall at Taxila Road collapsed. The rescue personnel dug out the dead and injured from the rubble and shifted them to a hospital. More casualties were feared as some injured were reported to be medically critical.
Separately, four Frontier Corps personnel on security duty died and three others were injured when dilapidated roof of a police picket in Matni area of Peshawar caved in due to rain.
In the meanwhile, one person each was killed in Talagang, Kasur and Donga Bonga in roof collapse incidents.
Moreover, at least six people were killed in different areas of Sindh and Balochistan in rain-related incidents.
Furthermore, the roof of a house caved in Chianwali in Gujranwala killing Kashish, 5, while her sister Kanwal, 15, was admitted to a hospital in an injured condition.
Separately, Idrees, 60, and Saif, 55, died while Naseer, 35, was injured when a roof collapsed in Shahdara in Lahore. Three people were sleeping in a makeshift cattle yard near a matchbox factory when their roof caved in due to heavy rain, entrapping them all under the rubble. Rescue teams shifted the dead and injured to the hospital.
Meanwhile, heavy rain in Karak claimed a minor girl and injured two women of the same family. The roof of their house caved in when the family members were resting.
Also in Mohmand Agency, two children and one woman were killed while two children were injured in a roof collapse incident.
Some children were also critically injured in a roof collapse incident in Jangal Khel area of Kohat.
