PM sympathizes with Ashraf Ghani over devastation in Afghanistan avalanches, assures support

Pakistan on Sunday dispatched two planeloads of emergency relief goods for the people of Afghanistan affected by avalanches.

The relief assistance has been sent on the instructions of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif as a token gesture of solidarity with the people of Afghanistan, said a press release.

The relief assistance consisting of essential food items, tents, blankets, and medicines were received at KabulAirport by Head of Shura-e-Panjsher, General Din Muhammad Jurat, and Director General of Afghan Disaster Management Authority, Dr. Muhammad Daim Kakar, along with senior government officials. Pakistan’s Ambassador to Afghanistan was also present.

Speaking on the occasion, General Jurat and Dr. Kakar expressed profound gratitude on behalf of the government and the people of Afghanistan for Pakistan’s generous and timely support.

In the meanwhile, Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the losses rendered by flashfloods in some areas of Afghanistan and sympathized with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani.

In a message sent to Afghan President Asharaf Ghani on Sunday, PM Nawaz said that he was deeply troubled upon learning of the devastating avalanches in Afghanistan that have claimed lives of hundreds of our Afghan brothers and sisters besides other property losses. I join you in praying for them and their families, he added.

The PM said that he has already instructed Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to provide whatever support it can and have already deployed multiple convoys to airlift support to Afghanistan.

He said, “I am confident that your leadership at this time is of even more importance than during ordinary times. The Pakistani people and our resources stand available to you as always. I also want to assure you that my staff is keeping me apprised of the situation on an hourly basis. InshaAllah we will not sleep peacefully until we know that this crisis has passed.”
