Federal Minister for Commerce Engr Khurram Dastgir Khan has said that Pak-US Business Opportunity Conference will take place on March 10 in Islamabad which will play a vital role in making lasting economic cooperation between the two countries.

Addressing a press briefing along with US Ambassador to Pakistan Richard Olson at a hotel on Friday he said the decision on the conference was made in a meeting between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and US President Barack Obama that the next conference would be organised in Pakistan.

He said it would be the third edition of Pak-US Business Opportunity Conference, and in March “Pak-US Economic Week” will also be celebrated. Dastgir said the US was the largest single country export destination for Pakistan. He said last year Pakistan’s exports to American markets stood around $3.71 billion.

He said the purpose of the conference was to bring good relations of the two countries to a business level as well for grabbing the opportunities.

“Promoting international trade and investment is the pivot around which Pakistan seeks to devise its economic development and poverty reduction strategies,” he said.

This was the counter peace of the current government’s vision and strategy to fight violent extremism through economic and political empowerment of the people of the country.

He said Pakistan and the US shared important economic and strategic relationship and therefore their government placed a high priority on bolstering economic engagement with the US.
