On the basis of intelligence reports that some student organisations in three public sector universities were fanning extremism through hate literature, law enforcement agencies have decided to carry out targeted operations to flush out such elements from education institutes.

Source said that the law enforcement agencies have formally sought permission from Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif before carrying out such targeted operations.

The sources said that student organisations in the Agricultural University Faisalabad, University of Sargodha and the University of Punjab were allegedly distributing hate literature to spread extremism and radicalism and in support of the Islamic State (Daesh) – a group which IS fighting a pitched battle in Syria and Iraq while claiming to establish a Caliphate, has drawn a substantial chunk of its fighters from the Islamic world and Europe.

The sources said that the targeted operation will be carried out in all the three universities in the coming few days.
