The Supreme Court (SC) has sought record from the Sindh IGP about police officials involved in criminal activities besides constituting a committee to probe into allegations levelled against an SSP.
A 2-member bench of the SC comprising Justice Amir Hani Muslim and Justice Maqbool Baqir Friday took up for hearing a petition filed by Anwar Soomro, father of Anis-ur-Rehman Soomro, killed in alleged police encounter in Karachi registry.
The IGP appeared in the court on Friday during the course of hearing. The court asked from the IG that how the police officers facing grave allegations were appointed in the police department. The IG could not give any proper reply to court.
Justice Amir Hani Muslim remarked: “There are good officers in the ranks of police. We know many of them who have been martyred. But the black sheep present in police cadres have undermined the entire system.”
The court ordered the top cop to present report within three months regarding police officers and policemen who were facing cases or were involved in criminal activities.
The court also ordered that former SHO Sachal Shoaib Siddiqui and Ishaq involved in alleged encounter of Anis-ur-Rehman be not appointed anywhere. The court ordered to constitute a committee comprising additional sessions judge South to hold inquiry against SSP Malir Rao Anwar for threatening petitioner Anwar Soomro.
The court remarked: “Rao Anwar should appear before the committee which should complete the inquiry within a month and file report before the court.” Meanwhile, the court also handed over the inquiry into Anees-ur-Rehman’s case to SSP East Pir Muhammad Shah.
