MLOs demand judicial probe into raid

Medical Legal Officers (MLOs) of Karachi on Monday performed their duties while wearing black armbands to record their protest against the raid of law enforcers on the residence of JPMC MLO Dr Shahzad Ali in Lyari.

Senior Medical Legal Officer Dr Nisar Ali Shah while talking to the media persons said that MLOs of all major hospitals in Karachi including of Civil Hospital Karachi, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and other hospitals performed their duties by wearing black armbands.

He said that the secretary health, special secretary public health and other officials contacted the MLOs and urged them not to boycott their duties. He said, “They also assured us for constitution of an inquiry committee to probe the incident.”

He said MLOs presented their demands to the officials including a judicial inquiry of the incident. The demands include the suspension of the inspector and his team involved in torturing the MLO, provision of security of MLOs, establishing a separate directorate for MLOs and other demands.

It is pertinent to mention here that Dr Shahzad Ali MLO at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre was thrashed by law enforcement personnel at his home, who also deleted data from his laptop and took away his cell phone and documents.
