‘Lyari trauma center’ to be completed in 2018

The number of traumatic injuries, natural disasters and fire incidents in industrial areas connected to Lyari Town has increased the importance of state-of-the-art Trauma Center to be constructed in the town on earliest, sources at Lyari General Hospital said on Saturday.

They said the rising number of bomb blasts, accidents, natural disasters, fire incidents in industrials areas, besides mishaps to picnickers who take bath at the beach of Lyari have increased the importance of Trauma Center in Lyari where highly-skilled professional trauma team always gets ready to provide immediate life-saving procedures.

Keeping in view, the Sindh Government had approved the summery of Trauma Center and Allied Services for Lyari Town in 2012 to cater the traumatic injuries and natural disasters at local level. The government had allocated Rs500 million for trauma center.

They said that construction work on three-story trauma center building had started in 2014 after two year delay due to non-release of funds. The project would be completed in 2018. They said the aim of the project was to provide state-of-art health facilities people at their door steps and hundreds of patients would avail best health facilities under one roof with the completion of this project in near future.

The trauma center linked with Lyari General Hospital which will offer accidental emergency, trauma observation, latest laboratory, and radiology, ICU, day-care facilities, orthopaedic, operation theatres, neurosurgery, chest, accidental and general surgeries and other modern facilities under one roof.

Sources said a helipad would also be established on top of the trauma center  building to cater emergency like situation and over 150 patients with traumatic injuries could be handled same time in center in case  any untoward situation in future.

Additional Medical Superintendent, Lyari General Hospital, Dr Khadim Hussain Qureshi, when contacted, said the work on trauma center in Lyari was continuing in speeding manner and the project was expected to be complete in 2018.

He said Lyari Town had significant importance in city as per its location point of view as major industrial zones like SITE and Hub industrial units just suited neighbouring areas of town  where fire and mechanical injuries were common.

He informed that the works and services department was completing the project, while Lyari Hospital administration only overseeing the trauma center affairs as it approved in PC. He said this project was a gift for residents of Lyari and adjoining towns. He said the project would help to cater natural disasters, accidents, traumatic injuries, fire and mechanical incidents at local level as the town is linked with whole city through Lyari Expressway.
