RWMC to clean up Metro’s mess

The Punjab government has handed over the upkeep and maintenance of Metro Bus route to the Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC).

According to MPA and RWMC Chairman Raja Hanif, the company will maintain the 24-kilometre long Metro Bus route by deputing sanitary workers in three shifts, who will work from dawn to dust. He said that around 60 sanitary workers would be engaged for the morning shift, 30 for day and evening shift and 10 for the night shift.

Hanif said that in case the RWMC sanitary workers fail to keep maintenance of the Metro Bus route and trash is found anywhere along the bus route, the metro bus management will impose a fine on the RWMC.

Meanwhile, RWMC Managing Director Irfan Qureshi has said that Turkish company Alburaq has started lifting trash from Rawal Town, Pothohar Town and some UCs of Murree.

He said that the garbage was being lifted through mechanical sweeping. He further said that the Turkish company would start lifting garbage from all the seven Tehsils of Rawalpindi including Rawal Town and Pothohar Town from May 31.
