Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday decided to withdraw Senate tickets from two nominees it had earlier announced.

It has been learnt that instead of Kiran Dar, the party ticket for Senate seat from Punjab reserved for women would now be given to Ayesha Raza Farooq, daughter-in-law of former attorney general Chaudhry Mohammad Farooq.

The party has also withdrawn Senate ticket given to PM’s political secretary Dr Asif Kirmani in wake of severe criticism from within the party circles. Names of Chaudhry Jaffar Iqbal, Rana Mahmoodul Hassan and Saud Majeed are being considered for replacing Kirmani.

Kirmani confirmed the reports in a statement in which he expressed his gratitude to the PML-N leadership for considering him for the Senate nomination.

Kirmani said that his lawyers had informed him that he could not contest the Senate election because he was the PM’s political secretary after which he had decided to withdraw from the race.
