All registered federal government employees will get residential plots very soon according to the Federal Minister for Housing and Works Muhammad Akram Khan Durrani.

He said this while talking to a delegation of All Pakistan Secretariat Employees Coordination Council who called on him on Wednesday to discuss the allotment of plots on seniority basis rather than on first come first serve basis, and the abolition of the 5 per cent deduction from allottees of government owned accommodation.

The minister said the government is aware of the accommodation problems being faced by government employees and steps are being taken to address their issues. He said that at present 30,000 employees are registered with the ministry who will be given plots on first come first basis.

He said that besides Barrah Kahu, the ministry has also identified four new sites for housing schemes in Islamabad where all registered members will be given plots. He said that once registered members are accommodated, then new allotments would be made based on seniority.

The minister said that keeping in mind the high rents no government employee can afford to live in a private house, therefore, hiring allowances are being increased and a summary to this effect will soon be submitted to the prime minister for approval.

He also said that low cost housing schemes for low-income people would start soon in the city, and all four provinces, under Prime Minister Low Income Housing Schemes.

A proposal for a high-rise building in Sector G-6 is also under consideration for government employees, which will be given to original employees on ownership basis. He hoped that with these measures in hand; the housing problems faced by federal government employees will be resolved.
