The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has initiated development work in markets across the Federal Capital to improve their facilities. As a follow up of the recent visit made by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to the markets, the CDA administration has started inspecting markets to upgrade the civic amenities there, after consultation with the local traders associations.

As a first step, CDA Chairman Maroof Afzal, accompanied by Member National Assembly Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, and Member Administration and Estate Amer Ali Ahmed, Member Environment Syed Mustafain Kazmi, and officers of concerned formations of the authority, visited the Aabpara Market today and inspected the cleanliness, pavements, parking, encroachments and other facilities.

The CDA Chairman took immediate action upon discovering that no proper streetlights were provided to the market. He suspended the Deputy Director Street Lights Irfan Javed. He directed officers from relevant wings to ensure proper facilities and infrastructures in the markets and in other public areas. He announced that visits to different markets and class-III shopping centres would be carried out to ascertain the issues confronting the traders’ communities, so that these issues could be resolved at the earliest.

He said that the role of the business community in terms of the development of Islamabad cannot be ignored, adding that the community has always extended its full support and cooperation for the completion of public welfare projects in the city. He said that the CDA is trying to provide all facilities to traders without any discrimination including the upgrading of business centres, provision of clean drinking water, and removal of encroachments and the beautification of the city. He added that traders should fully cooperate with the CDA in this regard. He said that in order to cope with the long-standing issue of parking the CDA has planned to construct parking plazas in different markets in Islamabad and during its first phase, work on two sate of the art parking plazas is in progress.
