1,113,828 children vaccinated in anti-measles drive

Over 1,113,828 children, between six months and 10 years of age, were administered anti-measles injection under a two-week long drive launched in the entire district on January 26.

The anti-measles campaign, which began in all tehsils and towns of Rawalpindi district, entered into its twelfth day on Friday.

Executive District Officer (EDO) Health Dr Khalid Randhawa said that the campaign was in full swing.

Under the ongoing drive, he said that 1,113,828 children have so far been administered the measles vaccine in Tehsil Gujar khan, Kahuta, Kalar Syeda, Kotli Syetian, Murree, Taxila, rural areas of the city, cantonment and in Rawalpindi city while 1,386,934 the set target of the campaign would be achieved till February 9.

Randhawa informed that 540 mobile health teams and 192 health centers were operating in the district to complete the task of immunisation.

District Programmed Coordinator Dr Javaid Iqbal urged the citizens, particularly the parents, to come forward and play their role for elimination of the crippling disease from the society. “The parents should cooperate with the special teams so that the set target could be achieved,” he added.
