An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Rawalpindi on Wednesday issued arrest warrants for five witnesses of the prosecution in Benazir Bhutto murder case.
ATC Judge Pervaiz Ismail Joya issued the order during hearing of the case at Adiyala Jail in Rawalpindi.
The witnesses for whom arrest warrants were issued include FIA Deputy Director Khalid Jameel, Inspector FIA Nisar Jadoon, Inspector FIA Abdul Razzaq Meerani, DPO Jaffarabad Ashfaq Anwar and ex-SSP Javed Khan for not appearing before the court despite notices issued to them.
The court ordered police that the five witnesses be arrested and produced before the court in the next hearing. The case hearing was adjourned till February 9.
Benazir Bhutto was assassinated in a suicide attack minutes after she addressed an election rally in Rawalpindi in 2007. The ATC is conducting the trial of suspects who have been charged with planning and facilitating the assassination.
