Lawyers across the country observed a black day on the Pakistan Bar Council’s call against the 21st Constitutional Amendment and setting up of military courts.

Lawyers attended the courts wearing black armbands in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi, Quetta, Peshawar and other cities and districts. Black flags were hoisted on bar rooms in protest.

The 21st Amendment was condemned in meetings held at the LHCBA and other district bar associations where the lawyers criticised the political leadership for caving in to the army’s demands for establishing military courts. They said that military courts were akin to allowing martial law in the country.
