The delay in implementation of the National Action Plan Against Terrorism is regrettable as the government has failed in meeting deadlines it had set itself to contain terrorism, Pakistan Today Editor Arif Nizami said on Wednesday.

Speaking in Channel 24’s talk show DNA, Mr Nizami said that the nation had come on the same page against terrorism for the first time and it was imperative not to change the narrative in this regard.

“Hamid Khan advocate has challenged the establishment of military courts and the 21st Constitutional Amendment in the Supreme Court whereas his party has endorsed both decisions which were reached after consensus between all political leadership,” said Mr Nizami, adding that it was important that the legal fraternity take decisions in greater national interest rather than fearing about their own livelihoods.

Mr Nizami also criticised Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi for saying that he would submit his resignation over the recent petrol crisis if asked by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

“Rather than throwing the ball in the PM’s court, Abbasi should have had the moral courage to step down from the office himself since the crisis began under his watch,” he said.
