An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Wednesday dismissed bail applications of four accused, involved in attacking a vigil held to observe the 4th death anniversary of former Punjab Governor Salman Taseer.
The ATC judge announced the verdict which was reserved on January 27 after hearing arguments of the accused and complainant counsels. The post-arrest bail application was filed by the accused including Iftikhar, Furqanul Haq, Wazir Ali and Adeel.
The accused pleaded the court to grant them bail for being innocent and lack of evidence. However, the complainant’s counsel opposed the application saying that media footage showed that they were guilty.
On January 4, a group of enraged men had attacked the participants of a candlelit vigil at Liberty Chowk, organised to mark the death anniversary of Salman Taseer. They snatched and tore placards and photos of the former governor before beating up vigil participants.
