The government seems to be giving a serious thought to the request of former military ruler, General (r) Pervez Musharraf for a day’s permission to travel to Saudi Arabia to commiserate the death of the late Saudi King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz with the royal family, as top leadership of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had a closed door meeting away from Islamabad to discuss the issue.

Informed sources told Pakistan Today that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif chaired a meeting in Murree on Monday in which his close aides – Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan were present besides the prime minister’s daughter, Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

The sources said that the meeting was ostensibly held to discuss Musharraf’s request to travel to Riyadh. Interestingly, the Prime Minister’s Office has previously denied that it had received any such request from the former dictator.

The government spokesperson was not available for comment.
