Commander of the Afghan border police Lieutenant-General Mohammad Shafiq Fazli along with deputy Major-General Sher Ali Shahryar arrived in Pakistan today for an official visit.

According to Inter-Services Public relations, Lt Gen Fazli and Maj Gen Shahryar are accompanied by eight senior Afghan Border Police officials during their five-day visit.

The Afghan delegation will hold meetings with senior Pakistan military officials.

“Issues related to border security will be discussed during Afghan Border Police delegation visit to Pakistan,” the statement read.

The visit which comes a week after Lt Gen Nasir Khan Janjua Janjua, Commander Southern Command and Peshawar Corps Commander Lt Gen Hidaytur Rehman visit to Afghanistan this week are a sequel to the talks held.

The two Pakistan military officials met their Afghan counterparts across the border during their visit.

Both sides discussed “matters related to border security coordination and ways and means to further enhance the existing mechanism”.

“These visits are aimed at enhancing the ongoing Pak-Afghan cooperation and will help boost confidence between the armies of the two countries,” the ISPR said after the visits.

Last month, Afghan army chief General Sher Muhammad Karimi visited Pakistan and met his Pakistani counterpart General Raheel Sharif in Rawalpindi. During the meeting the two sides had agreed that their commanders would begin meetings immediately to further coordinate cross-border security operations.
