The Sindh High Court on Friday directed the anti-corruption department to submit a comprehensive report of its investigation carried out into lease of 17 residential-cum-commercial plots illegally carved out of an amenity plot in Hawksbay area.

A division bench headed by Justice Nadeem Akhtar gave this direction while hearing a petition filed by Noor Khan Niazi and other office-bearers of Karachi Goods Carrier Association against the local administration for leasing out an amenity plot.

The petitioners had submitted that the officers of erstwhile City District Government Karachi (CDGK) in cahoots with the land grabbers carved out 17 plots from an amenity plot at Hawksbay Truck Stand and sold them out. They added that according to the master plan for the area the amenity plot was earmarked for park and playground but it was leased out unlawfully.

The counsel for the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) had also admitted to illegal leasing of the plots, stating the disciplinary proceedings had been initiated against the persons involved in this illegal practice.

On Friday, the counsel for the petitioner pointed out that court’s order regarding submission of investigation report were not complied with as the report submitted by the anti-corruption department did not disclose the names of all persons to whom these plots were leased out.

The court directed the anti-corruption department to file comprehensive report disclosing the latest position of investigation and action taken by the department. The report shall be filed within two weeks, the court ordered.
