Afghanistan is investigating whether five Pakistani men arrested last week in connection with the Taliban massacre of an army-run school in Peshawar are the ones wanted by Pakistan.

Last week, five men were detained in the neighbouring country a week after Pakistan sent a list of suspects to security services in Afghanistan, said Afghan officials who asked not to be named.

“We are investigating whether the five detained are the ones wanted by Pakistan,” one of the Afghan officials told a foreign news outfit.

On December 16, the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan gunmen stormed into Army Public School in Peshawar killing 150, including 134 children, in the country’s bloodiest massacre in years.

A Pakistani official said another 20-25 people had been detained in Pakistan but some had already been released.

A second Pakistani official said that talks were underway with the government for the transfer of the five prisoners in Afghanistan to Pakistan.
