The United States and United Kingdom have written letters to the Pakistani government seeking the custody of Mumbai attacks alleged mastermind Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, a news channel reported on Saturday.

The channel said that both countries had sought Lakhvi’s custody on the grounds that a large number of American, British and other foreign nationals were killed in the attack on Mumbai’s Taj Mahal Hotel on Nov 26, 2008, which was carried out by Pakistan-based banned militant outfit, Lashkar-e-Taiba. The two countries have stated that they want to hold Lakhvi accountable for the killing of their citizens, however the Interior Ministry has decided not to hand over Lakhvi to either of them, the channel claimed.
