LAHORE-

An anti-terrorism court on Saturday sentenced to hang activists of banned terrorist organisation Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP) who were involved in attacks on the worship places of the Ahmaddiya community in May 2010,  private media reported.

Convicts Muawaiya and Abdullah have been ordered to be hanged seven and nine times, respectively, for involvement in the near-simultaneous attacks on Ahmaddiya worship sites in Garhi Shahu and Model Town areas of Lahore on May 28, 2010.

94 people were killed while more than a hundred were injured in the incident. TTP and its Punjab wing had claimed responsibility for the attack.

Ahmadis were declared non-Muslims by the Pakistani government in 1974 and now suffer discrimination and violent attacks.

Ahmadis are frequently attacked, accused of blasphemy and subjected to discrimination in education and the workplace. They are also banned from going on the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca.
