The Lahore High Court Friday issued notices to the Petroleum Ministry and Pakistan State Oil (PSO) on a petition against shortage of petrol.

Justice Shahid Waheed issued the notices on a petition filed by Advocate Gohar Nawaz Sindhu.

Earlier, the petitioner argued before the court and submitted that it was duty of the government to ensure provision of basic necessities. However, the province has been facing shortage of petrol for the past few days, he said.

He said that with the passage of time, the situation is deteriorating as majority of the fuel stations had closed down after running out of stock.

Sindhu said that the authorities concerned were not paying heed to the masses’ hardships due to the shortage of fuel.

He requested the court to issue directions to the respondents to take all necessary measures to restore supply of fuel without any further delay.

The court after recording initial arguments issued notices to the respondents and sought reply by January 20.
