The Supreme Court Thursday rejected the police report on lynching of a Christian couple in Kot Radha Kishan, terming it “unsatisfactory”, and ordered the police to submit a detailed report by January 26.
A three-member SC bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Nasirul Mulk and comprising Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Mushir Alam, resumed hearing of the suo motu case.
After reviewing the report, Justice Gulzar Ahmed remarked that the report submitted by the police was a “collection of contradictions”.
“If the policemen were armed then why they did not disperse the crowd by firing?” he questioned.
The CJP said that at least police could have resorted to aerial firing to disperse the crowd to save the couple.
“What is the purpose of the police if it cannot protect the citizens. If the police did its work honestly, many accidents could be prevented,” the CJP added.
Later, the court adjourned hearing till January 26.
