The Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) endorses the 21st Constitutional Amendment and it would support all efforts of the government and the Pakistan Army to eliminate terrorism in the country, said PUC central Chairman Maulana Tahir Ashrafi on Tuesday while addressing a press conference at Baitul Aman, after a PUC Shoora’s meeting on situation prevailing in the country and the 21st Amendment.

He said an impression was being created that the amendment was against religious forces, masajid and madaris.

He asked the government to make efforts to allay this impression.

He said that mosques and seminaries were not a hurdle in eliminating terrorism.

“We have urged the government to point out seminaries affiliated with PUC, Wafaqul Masajid Pakistan, Tahaffuz Madaris Deenya Pakistan, Wafaqul Madaris Pakistan and any other organisations involved in training of terrorists. We will support government action against such institutions,” he said.

Ashrafi said Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had assured that there would be no crackdown against any seminary or mosque without proof and if proofs were found these would be shared with Ulemas and religious organisations.

He said that there had been no registration of new seminary for many years and demanded for taking steps in this regard.
