Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s total worth of assets have crossed the mark of Rs 2 billion for the first time while his investment in a sugar mill has registered a six-fold increase within a year.
According to the statement of assets and liabilities submitted by Sharif to the parliament for financial year 2014-15, the total value of assets in the premier’s own name and that of his wife had jumped to Rs 2.36 billion from Rs1.71 billion last year.

While the value of his shares in Hudaibiya Engineering Company, Hudaibiya Paper Mills, Muhammad Bakhsh Textile Mills and Ramzan Spinning Mills remained the same, his investment in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills saw a phenomenal increase of 600 per cent, reaching Rs 120 million this year as compared to Rs 20 million last year.

He also owns a three-bed apartment in the East Tower, near the Convention Centre, Islamabad, whose present value has been mentioned in the statement as Rs 15m.

The yet-to-be-built apartment is located on a plot sold years ago under a deal currently being probed by the National Accountability Bureau. The land had been sold for Rs 4.8bn with the amount recoverable in 20 years.

  1. Shame, Shame. Should we be proud that PAK PM is the richest man presiding over the poor masses after looting money from them. Sahibzada Jahangir, Senior Advisor to Chairman PTI.

  2. Comes as no surprise. Pakistani politics is business. Always has been. Were quick to knock down the army or judiciary – but the biggest disease in pakyis politicians wanting to increase their personal wealth as opposed to the states. Better theur oersonal circumstances rather than those of the impoverished public. And the best news is, over the years, its worsened. Shame indeed.
