A special court hearing the treason case against former military ruler Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf on Thursday adjourned the hearing until Feb 18.

A three-member court, headed by Justice Faisal Arab of the Sindh High Court (SHC), resumed the hearing during which Musharraf’s lawyer Faisal Chaudhry presented his arguments.

The prosecuting lawyer pleaded to the bench that while the decision of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) against Musharraf may stand, the special court be allowed to function.

To this, Justice Faisal Arab said, “After the Nov 21 decision of the IHC, how can proceedings continue?”

On Nov 21, the special court hearing the treason case against Musharraf had included Shaukat Aziz, Zahid Hamid and former CJ Abdul Hameed Dogar as Musharraf’s abettors in the treason trial.

The order came as the court disposed of a request filed by the former president calling for the trial of abettors.

Musharraf had also demanded that the civilian leadership and the military authorities that were allegedly a part of the November 3, 2007, emergency, should also be tried alongside him.
