President approves 21st Constitutional Amendment bill into law

President Mamnoon Hussain on Wednesday signed the 21st Constitutional Amendment Bill 2015, and the Pakistan Army Act 1952 Amendment Bill into law, private media reported.

Both the bills were approved by legislators in National Assembly and  Senate with a two-third majority on Tuesday, providing constitutional cover for establishment of military courts in the country for a period of two years.

Addressing the upper house yesterday, Prime Minister(PM) Nawaz Sharif said “This bill is about military courts trying hardcore terrorists who kill Pakistanis.This is an important day for Pakistan when the nation decided that terrorists will be taken out from the roots.”

The Presidency received the drafts of bills last night  from Parliament Secretariat. The bills were placed for presidential approval today. After the consent of the President, the Law Ministry issued the official gazette of Pakistan.

The legislation is part of  anti-terror strategy of the government after December 16  brutal attack of militants on Army Public School in Peshawar which killed around 150 people, 134 of them children.

PM had announced the establishment of military courts for speedy trial of terrorists.
