The Sindh High Court (SHC) issued notice to the home secretary, provincial police chief, Rangers director general and other official respondents to submit their respective replies to four petitions seeking whereabouts of missing men said to be detained by law enforcement agencies.
The bench also issued notice to the federal and provincial law officers to submit their comments on the petitions by January 15.
The petitioner, Alam Gul, submitted that his three brothers, Muhammad Khan, Alam Khan and Rehmat Ali, who were watchmen at Production Humanity Welfare Organisation, Manghopir, were taken away by some unidentified persons on December 20 and since then there was no information about their whereabouts.
He said he had reported the matter to the police station concerned but they refused to entertain his plea for registration of an FIR. The petitioner told the judges that he had learnt through some sources that his brothers were detained by CID police unlawfully.
Another petitioner, Shoib Shaikh, stated that his brother, Muhammad Kamran Shaikh, a dealer of second-hand cars, was picked up from near Malir Halt by the police personnel on December 16. He said he also approached the officials of law enforcement agencies to seek his brother’s whereabouts but to no avail.
The woman petitioner, Zeenat Bagum, alleged that his son Faisal Khursheed was detained by the Rangers personnel unlawfully without any plausible reason. She told the judges that her son had gone to Rangers’ 84 Wing, Bhittai Rangers to have his arms license verified but they took him captive.
The petitioner, Noorun Nisa, said that paramilitary troops had arrested her son Muhammad Salman from Jama Cloth Market but did not produce him in any court of law if he was involved in any criminal activity.
She said the petitioner’s son was illegally detained by the Rangers personnel and pleaded to the court to direct the law enforcement officials to produce him in court.
