20 suspects arrested in Charsadda, seven Afghans among 19 nabbed in Abbottabad, Loralai
A key militant commander and five people suspected of links with banned terror outfit Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) were amongst the several suspects rounded up by security forces during countrywide search operations on Monday.
At least 14 suspected militants including nine foreigners and a key militant commander involved in the November 26 attack on polio workers were arrested during a search operation by security forces in Quetta’s Eastern Bypass area.
“Forces acted on an intelligence tip-off and raided a house in Haji Mohalla area of Eastern Bypass,” an intelligence officer said.
The militants were moved to an undisclosed location for interrogation.
The officer also claimed that the mastermind of the November 26 attack on polio workers in Quetta was among the militants apprehended during the operation.
Security forces also recovered arms and ammunition from the possession of the militants.
FIVE LeJ SUSPECTS ARRESTED:
Moreover, five people suspected of affiliation with LeJ were arrested from Karachi’s Ittehad Town Monday.
Personnel from the Crime Investigation Department’s (CID) anti-terrorism cell conducted a raid in Ittehad Town and arrested five suspects after an exchange of fire. Weapons were also recovered from the suspects.
Sources said that the suspects had received jihad training in Waziristan and were said to be involved in extortion activities and attempted murders. Further investigation is underway.
MILITANTS, AFGHANS ARRESTED IN CHARSADDA, ABOTTABAD:
In the meanwhile, 20 suspects were arrested and a huge cache of arms was recovered from their possession Monday after police and other law enforcement agencies personnel conducted a search operation in Saro Kaley in Tehsil Shabqadar of Charsadda.
In the meanwhile, 14 suspects, including two Afghans were arrested in a search operation at Phul Gulab, Abbottabad.
A case was filed against the arrested people under Tenant Act at Mirpur Police Station for renting their houses without registration. A case was registered against the two Afghans under the Foreign Act.
In another operation by law enforcement agencies on Loralai-Quetta road, five Afghan nationals were arrested for failing to produce valid documents of their residence in Pakistan.
ONE KILLED, BOMB DIFFUSED:
Furthermore, a worker was killed and two others injured in a blast in a local steel mill in Dargai area of Malakand Agency Monday.
In the meanwhile, the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) foiled a terror bid by diffusing a seven-kilogram-bomb planted on Misri Banda Road, Nowshera.
According to Akora Khattak Police Station, the police received information that some miscreants had planted a remotely-controlled bomb near Pir Sabaq area. The BDS diffused the bomb which was reportedly of Russian origin.
