Four suspected militants including a key commander of a banned militant outfit were arrested on Sunday during a joint search operation by the Frontier Corps and police in Sariab Road area of Quetta.

“A key commander among four militants of a banned outfit has been arrested,” said Saryab Superintendent of Police (SP) Imran Qureshi while talking to reporters.

Security forces also recovered arms, maps and suspicious literature from the possession of the militants who were later moved to an undisclosed location for interrogation, Qureshi said. The militants were involved in acts of targeted killings, kidnappings and other saboteur activities, he added.

Security forces and police have launched operations in different parts of Balochistan in the aftermath of Peshawar carnage and have taken into custody more than 15 suspected militants from different parts of the province.

EXPLOSIVE-LADEN JACKER DEFUSED:

Moreover, Quetta Police on Sunday foiled a terror bid by defusing a suicide vest near Barori Road in Quetta, officials said.

According to details, locals of the area informed the police about the explosive-laden jacket, following which the police along with the Bomb Disposal Squad reached the area and defused the suicide vest.

“Around 12 kilogrammes of explosives were found near the suicide jacket,” a police official said.

TERRORIST KILLED:

In the meanwhile, a terrorist was reportedly killed by the security forces during a clash in District Bannu of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Sunday.

According to details, a group of terrorists attacked the security forces during a search operation in the tribal area. The security forces responded, killing one terrorist while the others managed to flee.

The affiliation of the group could not be ascertained.

TWO GANGSTERS KILLED:

Furthermore, two members of a car-lifting gang were killed in an exchange of fire with police in Rahimyar Khan on Sunday.

According to details, a four-member gang snatched a car from Bhoung area of Rahimyar Khan and sped away. The police chased them and an exchange of fire took place between the two parties in Rounti Police Station jurisdiction.

The police said that two gangsters were killed in the cross-firing while the other two managed to escape. The bodies were shifted to Obaro Tehsil Hospital.
