- Authorities directed to further speed up efforts for recovery of looted money
NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry has chalked out a strategy to actively pursue all corruption cases without any fear and favour. He said that beside enforcement, our main focus is on awareness and prevention aspects of NAB strategy to control corruption and corrupt practices with the help of civil society.
He said that corruption is the greatest obstacle to economic and social development around the world. It impedes competitiveness, stifles growth, hinders development and contributes to the erosion of stable societies. Desperately needed development funds are misappropriated / embezzled by corrupt individuals and resultantly poor people get robbed of the education / health care facilities and other essential services. Corruption paints a dismal picture of the state of affairs and is a vital factor in the draining of resources and plummeting of economies of under developed countries. Addressing the menace of corruption becomes imperative in order to achieve socio-economic uplift and political development. Anti-Corruption, nowadays is a top priority of NAB’s Awareness and Prevention Strategy.
Together with the civil society and through formation of character building of four thousand societies, seminars, workshops etc, NAB is striving hard to ensure the implementation of National Anti Corruption Strategy (NACS), proposals and to promote model frameworks to combat corruption. National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is endeavouring to effectively implement the universally accepted strategy of Awareness, Prevention and Enforcement to combat corruption. Since its inception, NAB has been primarily enforcement oriented. This approach was adopted as the need of the hour. However with evolution it was realized that in order to address the causes of corruption it is necessary to adopt a holistic approach of Awareness, Prevention and Enforcement.
