A recent report from the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has revealed that the government has spent only 0.4 percent of GDP on health sector during 2014.

This ratio remained 0.3 percent in 2013 while 2012 also witnessed the spending on health sector by the government with the same ratio of 0.3 percent. Some 0.5 percent of GDP was spent on health sector in 2010 and 0.2 percent in 2011.

The infant mortality ratio reflects that 66 infants out of 1,000 die in the country. As many as 69 out of 1,000 infants died in 2012 while 71 infants in 2011 and 72 infants died in 2010.

This indicates that health has never remained on the radar screen of the government due to which thousands of citizens lose their lives for want of medical treatment every year.
