ATC extends remand of five accused in cops’ murder case

An Anti-terrorism court (ATC) extended the remand of five accused Muhammad Azeem, Abdul Haseeb, Ameer Hamza, Jalil and Imran to police custody till December 22, 2014, in a case pertaining to murder of two cops.

Police produced the accused before ATC judge under tight security. Investigation officer of the case requested the court to allow further physical remand of the accused as the police wanted to map out their connections and trace whereabouts of their absconding accomplices, Amir, Abu Bakar and Sajjad. The court accepted the police request and extended the physical remand of all accused till 22nd.

According to prosecution, all accused were involved in killing of head constable Muhammad Javaid, constable Muhammad Asif and injuring constable Saleem Ahmed and a passersby Khawar Bux on January 16 near Buffer Zone area within the jurisdiction of Taimooria Police Station.

A case FIR 17/2014  was registered at Taimooria Police Station under section 302 (premeditated murder), 324 (attempt to murder) and 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997.

Alleged extortionist remanded to police

An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Friday remanded an accused, Yousuf Khan, to police custody till January 2, 2015, in a money extortion case.

Police produced the accused before the ATC judge under tight security. Investigation officer of the case requested the court to allow the physical remand of the accused as the police wanted to map out his connections. The court accepted the police request and extended the physical remand of all accused till 2nd January.

According to prosecution, accused was involved in demanding ransom of Rs30,000 from complainant Imran Iqbal within the jurisdiction of Site A police station. Police arrested the accused when reached to collect ransom money.

A case FIR 640/2014  was registered at Site A police station under section 384(punishment for extortion) and 386(extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt) of the Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997.
