The residents on Thursday urged the authorities concerned to devise an effective mechanism against the rise of illegal encroachments in the federal capital.
It is a common sight that the shopkeepers are encroaching upon the pavements and footpaths and vendors setting up stalls on roads in the most commercial areas of the capital.
The customers complained that the pedestrians are left with no choice other than walking on the middle of the road. The traffic flow is being affected due to the rise in illegal encroachments on road sides of almost all markets of the capital, they added.
Muhammad Khan, a resident complained, “Soon after the anti-encroachment drive of the authorities concerned, the encroachments reappear again on the road sides.”
A customer, Javid Shezad at Karachi Company market said that it had become almost impossible to walk freely in the market because of the encroachments all over the footpaths as well as on the roads. He said that the Capital Development Authority (CDA) is responsible to remove the encroachments from the footpaths.
When contacted, CDA Enforcement Directorate Deputy Director General Asia Gul said that encroachment is a recurring phenomenon, which needs continued efforts and constant vigilance of the Authority. She said that all possible efforts are being to control encroachments in the capital.
The success in the drive is not possible without the public and traders support, he added. He said that drive is launched today against the encroachments in I/11.
