Police make headway in Soomro’s murder investigation

Police have made headway in investigation into the murder of senior Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal leader Dr Khalid Mehmood Soomro as the two accused believed to be involved in the murder have been detained on Friday.

The SSP Sukkur said the special investigation team tasked to probe the murder of senior politician had conducted raids in some 21 areas and had picked up 12 suspects including two accused.

The official said that police were close to breakthrough in the investigation. Following important information provided by the detained suspects, the scope of the investigation had been extended to Punjab and Balochistan. It is to be mentioned that the late Soomro was secretary-general of the JUI-F Sindh and had also remained members of Senate.

Dr Khalid Mehmood Soomro was shot dead in a targeted attack on last Saturday when he was offering Fajr prayers at a Madrassa in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Society in Sukkur.

Police had said that four assailants arrived in three cars and three of them, aged between 25 and 35, entered the Madrassa from the back gate and opened fire on Soomro while the fourth stayed in the vehicle.
