Top chefs display culinary skills at Chinese Food Carnival

A Chinese Food Carnival was organised at Shakaparian under the aegis of the National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage, Lok Virsa, in collaboration with the Chinese Cuisine Association Beijing.

The event was arranged in the lawns of the Transport Museum of the Pakistan National Museum of Ethnology also known as the “Heritage Museum”. Twenty top chefs from China participated in the Food Carnival. Overall, more than 40 professional chefs from different regions of China demonstrated their skills on the occasion. They left the audience spell-bound with their culinary proficiency and tasty dishes.

Year 2015 has been declared as “Pak-China Friendship Year”. A Chinese delegation is visiting Pakistan for one week in the context of these celebrations. Besides demonstrating their cuisine for Pakistani audience, the delegation will also promote economic activity and introduce Pakistani dishes in China.

Lok Voirsa Executive Director Shahera Shahid, while welcoming the Chinese Cuisine Association and other guests, said, “Pakistan and China enjoy cordial relations based on historical cultural ties. The people of both the countries consider each other brothers and friends.”

The ED highlighted all similarities between Pakistan and China in arts and crafts which are very much reflective in a number of Pakistani crafts such as ceramics, embroidery, pottery and others. Many of these crafts have been preserved at the Heritage Museum of Lok Virsa, she added.

She further said that Pakistan is blessed with a variety of fruits and vegetables together with quality meat items. “Pakistanis love to cook food, eat food and serve food.”

“Moreover, the people of Pakistan enjoy eating Chinese, French, Mexican, Italian, Portuguese foods as well,” she said, adding that many Chinese restaurants are operational in all major cities of Pakistan “which speaks of the popularity of Chinese food amongst Pakistanis”.
