Traders of the twin cities have rejected the call given by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan for country-wide shutdown on December 16 as it would adversely affect business activities and national economy.

Markazi Anjuman Tajran President Shahid Ghafoor Paracha, Traders Action Committee Pakistan Chairman Sharjeel Mir, Commercial Market President Raja Tauheed and Pharmaceutical Traders Association Chairman Arshad Awan, in a statement on Monday, said that some political elements were creating anarchy in the country for their own interests.

They said that the politics of long marches, civil disobedience and shutdown would be destructive not only for traders and businessmen, but also for the national economy.

“The country has been facing different challenges, including terrorism, extremism and energy crisis. It cannot afford such activities that will cause political instability,” they observed.

They said the leadership of all political parties should join hands for strengthening economy instead of hatching conspiracies against the government for their vested interests.

They said the sit-in and call for country-wide shut down by the PTI would create law and order situation, which would ultimately hinder economic growth.
