Gen. Sharif meets John Kerry

WASHINGTON-

Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Raheel Sharif, held a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry during his Washington visit aimed at strengthening bilateral military relations, private media reported Monday.

According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) , Gen. Sharif and John Kerry discussed regional security matters.

In the meeting at State Dept, ISPR said, the army chief gave Pakistan’s perspective on regional security issues.

He said the US Secretary of State welcomed progress on improving Pak-Afghan relations as step to regional stability, adding that he assured full support in this regard. John Kerry also termed the meeting with visiting Pakistan Army chief as ‘productive’.

On his maiden visit to the US as Pakistan army chief, General Sharif stayed in the US for nearly two weeks. During his stay he met National Security Advisor Susan Rice, members of the US Senate, his American counterpart Raymond T Odierno, and other military commanders including US Central Command chief General Lloyd J. Austin.
