Peace, stability necessary for development of Asia

Peace and stability are necessary for the development and prosperity of Asia, said Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) Lahore Conference organising committee chairman and Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed while addressing a press conference at local hotel on Saturday.

Syed said that 7th session of Asian Parliamentary Assembly was a unique conference and will begin from December 1 with the theme “Quest for Asian Parliament in Asian Century”.

The recommendation has been given for converting APA into Asian Parliament for encouraging all Asian countries to meet the demands of the Asian Century.

Mushahid said as the balance of economic, cultural and political power was shifting, away from the West to the East, the Asian Parliament could be a force for uniting Asians.

He said that some important conferences were taking place in Asia such as SAARC summit in Kathmandu and others. He thanked the federal government and provincial government for extending support in this regard.

The senator said that in 21st century Asian people would decide the future of Asia.

To a question, he said that Pakistan’s relations with Afghanistan have improved, adding that it was important to have good relations with neighbouring countries for moving ahead in the region.

He said that difference of opinion exist but dialogue was the only way to resolve the issues, adding that Pakistan’s relations with China, US and Russia were improving.
