Modalities to transfer the management control of some government hospitals to reputable Non-government Organizations (NGOs) under the Public Private Partnership initiatives of Sindh Government were discussed at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Friday.
According to a statement of the CM house, the idea of this scheme was to improve and ensure the efficient healthcare services to the ailing people on performance-based partnership.
Briefing the meeting Secretary Health Iqbal Durrani said that after floating this scheme, about 32 Expression of Interests were received from qualified NGOs out of which 12 were short listed.
Furthermore Aga Khan and Aman Foundations, Merton International and Indus Hospital were among them for participating on partnership basis, whereas Bahria Foundation has expressed its willingness for adopting the hospitals with take- over of 100% responsibilities on voluntary basis.
Discussion and deliberation was held to give final touch to the proposed draft of agreement presented by Health Department, which was supposed to be signed with partner organisations to make it more feasible, flawless and acceptable to all stakeholders.
Addressing the meeting Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that the purpose of Public Private Partnership initiative of the Government was to provide maximum health facilities to the ailing people on modern lines.
He asked the officers of Health Department to update their draft of agreement as per recommendations passed in the meeting within 48 hours.
He said that the Government planned to recruit more than 1155 doctors to expend medical facilities to the people at Government Hospitals. He said that 430 doctors have been appointed recently while recruitment of the remaining 553 male doctors and 172 lady doctors was in process.
