Hearings of former, present PEMRA chairmen adjourned till Dec 11

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has adjourned till December 11 the hearing of sacking of former Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) chairman Chaudhry Muhammad Rashid and a contempt of court case against acting PEMRA Chairman Pervez Rathore.

Wasim Sajjad, counsel for the former PEMRA chairman and Barrister Mehmood A Sheikh and Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Barrister Jahangir Jadoon appeared in the court for hearing of the case of sacking of former PEMRA chairman.

For the contempt of court case against the acting PEMRA chairman, Rathore also appeared in court.

IHC’s Justice Noorul Haq Qureshi took up the petitions for hearing. During the course of hearing of former PEMRA chairman sacking case, the petitioner’s counsel told the court that his client had been sacked illegally. He had been dismissed from service only on one show cause notice, the counsel said.

Barrister Sheikh told the court that the appointment of Rashid was made in a wrong way, therefore, the court should reject his petition in respect of his dismissal from service case.

The court also adjourned the hearing of contempt of court petition and other petitions against acting PEMRA chairman till December 11.
