Citizens throng markets to buy winter clothes as the chill begins to crawl up the bones

The sale of winter clothes including the second-hand variety particularly in the ‘lunda bazaars’ has increased in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

The second-hand cloth stalls at Faizabad, Khana Pul, Saddar, Commercial Market and Karachi Company are witnessing overwhelming rush of buyers almost every day in the current season.

Apart from these, pushcarts could be seen in every other market, while the second- hand clothing stalls in weekly bazaars are also doing roaring business.

Unlike the general impression that poor people buy second hands clothes, a large section of middle income group visits these markets and buy used clothes.

A stall owner Shoaib Khan said “Our business is going very well these days as the demand for winter clothes has gone up.”

“Our sale has doubled and we are expecting that in the days ahead it will go up further,” claimed another stall owner at Karachi Company. He said that the cold weather and the light rain in the city will further enhance the sale of warm clothes.

All kinds of wears and accessories including gloves, woollen hats, mufflers, pullovers, sweater shirts and jackets are seen hanging in front of stalls, shops in weekly bazaars, attracting the customers.

A shopper at Karachi Company said that the prices of new winter wears are out of our reach. “We, therefore, rush to second-hand clothes stalls, where quality clothes are available at affordable rates,” he added.

Stall of winter clothes and sales points of shoes can be witnessed at Aabpara, Melody, Super, Jinnah Super and Sittara Market, Peshawar Morr, Karachi Company, Faizabad, Commercial Market, Sadiqabad Chowk, Raja Bazaar and at many other big shopping malls and markets of the twin cities.
